At Friendly Kite School, we believe good kite schools and professional instructors should support each other.
Kiteboarding is a relatively small community, and when our students travel around the Dominican Republic, we want to be able to recommend people we genuinely trust.
One question we receive from riders traveling around the country is:
“Who do you recommend for kiteboarding in Las Terrenas?”
For us, the answer is easy:
Kitesurf Experience/Estilo De Vida and Petar Pavlović.
This recommendation is particularly personal because Petar is not simply someone we know through the kiteboarding industry. Over time, I have had the opportunity to get to know him very well, work alongside him, and now consider him a friend.
More importantly, I have seen him teach our own Friendly Kite students.
An Instructor We Have Personally Worked With
There is a big difference between recommending someone because of what you see online and recommending someone because you have actually worked beside them.
Friendly Kite had the opportunity to work and live alongside Petar in Brazil, where he taught students at Friendly Kite School in Praia de Macapá.
That experience gave us the opportunity to see how he works with students, how he approaches difficult situations, how seriously he takes safety, and how he conducts himself both professionally and personally.
After that experience, I feel completely comfortable recommending him to our students.
Petar is someone I would trust to teach a Friendly Kite student.

Experience That Can Be Verified
Petar has been kitesurfing since 2008 and teaching professionally since 2012.
According to Kitesurf Experience, he has taught more than 500 students and accumulated more than 5,000 hours of teaching experience.
His experience has taken him around the world, teaching and working in destinations including Cabo Verde, Brazil, Vietnam, Thailand, Egypt, Greece, Croatia, and the Dominican Republic.
He was also the Croatian Freestyle Champion in 2013.
Petar is identified by his Las Terrenas school as a Level 3 IKO instructor and former IKO Instructor Trainer, meaning his professional experience has included not only teaching kiteboarding students but also training instructors.
That depth of experience matters when choosing someone to teach an extreme sport.
One of Petar’s Biggest Strengths: Safety
If there is one area where we particularly respect Petar’s work, it is kiteboarding safety.
He has dedicated a significant amount of his educational content to helping kiters understand how to ride more safely and independently.
Through Kitesurf Experience by Petar Pavlović, he has produced numerous educational videos and tutorials covering subjects such as kite safety systems, self-landing, relaunching, right-of-way rules, equipment, technique, and many of the situations riders can encounter on the water.
For us, that says a lot about an instructor.
Good instruction isn’t only about getting someone onto a board as quickly as possible.
A good instructor should be creating an independent kitesurfer who understands what to do when something doesn’t go according to plan.
That philosophy is very similar to how we approach instruction at Friendly Kite.

Having personally spent time working with Petar, I would describe him as:
Professional. Honest. Reliable. Safety-focused. Knowledgeable. And excellent with students.
These aren’t qualities we’re repeating from an advertisement.
They come from our own experience with him.

We’ve seen the importance he places on proper technique and safety. We’ve worked alongside him in another country and trusted him with people who came to Friendly Kite to learn.

Kitesurf Experience/Estilo De Vida in Las Terrenas
Petar founded Kitesurf Experience as a platform for kiteboarding instruction, education, tutorials, and coaching.
Today, Kitesurf Experience operates in Las Terrenas, Dominican Republic, in collaboration with Estilo de Vida at Portillo.
The center offers kiteboarding lessons and coaching as well as equipment rental and other watersports.
Las Terrenas itself offers a very different kiteboarding experience from Buen Hombre.
While Buen Hombre is known for its remote atmosphere, strong wind, shallow areas, and small kite community, Las Terrenas and Portillo combine kiteboarding with the restaurants, accommodations, beaches, nature, and tourism of the Samaná Peninsula.
For kiters traveling around the Dominican Republic, experiencing both destinations can show two very different sides of kiteboarding in the country.
